Hand Printed Artwork

The Zaishu seat/table panels are all silkscreen printed by hand in our coastal studio in Yamba, Australia. These photos shows the side panel from our new Swedish Cross-Stitch Zaishu seat/table in production. The designs celebrate needlework combined with the Scandinavian love of natural wood, we pay homage to traditional womens crafts. We are Inspired by the women who continue to keep these skills alive as they are becoming increasingly lost in our industrialized societies. Craft is cool!
The India Project
This image features some of the 100 Zaishu seat/tables that were part of our non profit project in India. All panels were hand painted in India by Warli tribal artists, Rangoli artists, school children and traditional sign writers. Proceeds supported the artists and children from Samparc Children's Village. A documentary made by Mike Crowhurst about this project was shown at the Powerhouse Design Museum.

Concept Chair
Very cool – why didn't I think of this... probably because I'm not Dutch! Painting, collage, stencils, tattoo designs, burning, silkscreen and tyre prints are a few of the techniques used on the Zaishu seats/tables for the Amsterdam Project. Jennette Snape brought together a crew of Amsterdam’s cutting edge designers and artists creating a limited edition of 20 Zaishus available from Wilhelmina Winkel Gallery, Amsterdam. My Zaishu
Christine Lewis from Andover, MA, United States sent us this beautiful picture of her Zaishu seat/table with prints by Cloth and writes: I am sending you a picture of my Zaishu in place. I had Cloth Fabric make up some pillows to compliment my Zaishu… I’d love to have a houseful of Zaishus. suburbanpioneers.blogspot.com

Zaishu Studio
Printing of the new limited edition Angus McDonald Zaishu seat/tables in our costal studio, Yamba NSW, Australia.
A great deal of effort and time it taken in the printing process to colour match and quality control each panel. This image shows some of the panels from our stunning new Bird Textile Zaishu seat/table.Friday, 16 January 2009

Buenos Aires, Argentina
Welcome to the Zaishu Studio Blog! This is where we – Matt and Helen are going to share with you what creatively inspires us and the wonderful people we meet and collaborate with. At the moment we are in South America in discussion with MALBA, the Museum of Latin American Art to work with Argentinian artists and Potencialidades an Argentinian organization that works with kids in impoverished communities. We will be holding creative workshops with the kids to use their drawings to adorn our new 'Reach for the Stars' Zaishu seat/table, part of the proceeds from the sale of each Zaishu seat/table will then go back to support the organization.
